Many people are content to see that rails are to be removed around the  islands near the traffic lights in Forest Hill, near the station. This will allow people more room when they cross the road and avoid ‘pinch points’ . Notices are attached to the railings explaining why they are being removed, together with a diagram. From iphone Jan 2014 333We are currently inquiring what  ‘temporarily suspended means’. Some people find it hard to believe that taking away guard rails will make drivers take more care, as claimed on the notices. On their website, TFL claim that taking away guard rails makes drivers realise that pedestrians could cross anywhere.

It is reassuring to know that some guard rails are to stay: such as at the bottom of the slope at the end of David’s Road, a steep former canal slipway. From iphone Jan 2014 343
