Local grandees, residents’ representatives and contractors gathered on the first floor of partially-rebuilt Forest Hill Pools on Friday 28th October to witness the ‘topping out’ ceremony for the new building. After a quick bit of historical background to ‘topping out’ from the lead contractor Wilmot Dixon’s CEO, Lewisham’s Mayor was invited to join the architects and others in annointing the building with a traditional mix of wine, sand, salt and wheat.

Your Forest Hill ward councillors, Philip Peake and Alex Feakes, were also present to mark this important stage in the construction of the new building. “It was great to see the first ‘turf’ being cut on the new Pools a year ago, after so many delays to the start of the project, and it’s wonderful to witness the topping out of the new building a year later,” commented Cllr Peake. “The construction work is on schedule, and the indications are that the ambition to open the new Pools by September next year will be met.”
