Funeral for our Charing Cross Services 12 December 2009

Today I joined with the Forest Hill Society and various other residents’ groups in a rather weird demo to ‘mourn the passing’ of our services to Charing Cross. From tonight, anyone returning from the West End in the evening will have to change at London Bridge.

This follows the news at a committee meeting that I went to recently, that Labour-run Lewisham Council has announced it is giving up on the campaign against the cuts to the Forest Hill line.

This is just a few weeks after the Labour Mayor and Deputy Mayor signed my letter to the minister campaigning against the cuts. I can’t help feeling it means they were just paying lip service to residents’ concerns – they’re fallen over themselves not just to give up on the Charing Cross services, but on the campaign to keep our London Bridge rush-hour train service next May.

Never mind when there are still plenty of passengers prepared to stand up and be counted, and of course your Lib Dem councillors!
