Sadly, it is the house you’re thinking of that would be demolished as part of this application. I used to live just up the hill from the site – this application would have a huge impact on the road – and I’m pleased that local residents seem to be united in their opposition.

Hi, is this for the lovely little house who is going to be turned into 9 flats. NO NO thanks. Where are we going to park?? How long the work going to last?? AND thanks to destroy the view. Did you know that canonbie is one of the best view in London… Well obviously NOT!! Go And develop somewhere else thank you very much!!

I popped along to the library for a while on Saturday and it was in full swing. It was lovely to hear local writers and poets present their own work, and to see so many local readers getting involved!

For several weeks the situation in Dartmouth Road was being made much worse by the fact that traffic was being diverted there as a result of the closure of Sydenham Rise to Northbound traffic due to gas works. At the time I wondered why the lights had not been re-programmed to take account of the diversion, but perhaps the damage you mention was in part the cause. Why though did no-one from TfL or the council notice the very lengthy queues? Perhaps because traffic through Forest Hill in rush hours and at weekends is regularly pretty terrible, though in fairness it’s hard to see what could be done to make things better.

It would, and it shouldn’t be. It’s been suggested before (including by us) but it appears to be a far to obvious and value-for-money improvement for the bureaucrats to contemplate.

How about they put ramp access for wheel chairs and buggies like at Brockley? That would greatly help people in the area and should not be too hard to do?

It does, but even within planning law as it stands this could have been prevented if Cllr Alexander (the deputy Mayor and responsible for planning policy for those who don’t know) had agreed to instruct officers to produce a proper review and policy for the site as I asked her to instead of saying she didn’t “think it is a good use of officer time.”

Given that Lewisham Council’s consultation on site allocations received a record number of objections for this site (over 300 if I recall correctly – more than any other non-strategic site) most people would have seen my suggestion as entirely reasonable, but perhaps it’s more evidence that Labour don’t really give a stuff about what people actually want until they’re forced to.
